OUR 5 GO-TO PRODUCTS FOR A 'DAY TO DAY' MAKEUP
A few weeks ago, whilst filming our 'No Makeup' Makeup tutorial with our guest blogger Harry, we thought we would all compare our makeup essentials. Each of us had to pick out our 5 main products that we use for our natural day-to-day makeup. Not surprisingly, the one thing we all had in common was a blush in a pink shade and mascara. Moisturiser for the skin and lips, as well as some highlighter was also in most of our selections.
So here are our fave everyday, go to products, What are yours?
Third up is the Tom Ford blusher pink sand, I wore this on my wedding day and it always holds a special place for me because of that. I love a pinky cream blush for a natural looking flush.
I think mascara is a powerful tool and for me I love this one my fairy drops as it really holds a curl.
One of my all time favourite go to products has to be Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour cream, as there's so many ways you can use it, especially for no makeup makeup looks. I use it as a lip balm, and it makes a beautiful eye gloss as well as dabbing it on cheek bones.
The Caudalie Beauty Elixir was introduced to me while on a shoot. The make up artist sprayed it onto my face before applying any foundation and straight away I fell in love with this product. It smells amazing and refreshes your face. I usually use it in the morning to refresh my face and tighten my pores and sometimes in the evening before going to bed. The only down side is the high price, which is why I usually use the Avene Thermal spray all year round.
The second product is a Nars blusher 'deep throat' ;o) which I usually mix together with a bronzer. I love the shimmer in it.
Like most women, I've also got a favourite Mascara, which is Benefit "They're real" it really does what the name suggests :) but I also love the one Sara mentioned below as a great alternative.
While on another recent job in Germany, I was caught staring at the hair & make up artists lips throughout the hole day. She was wearing this gorgeous red coloured lipstick, which never seemed to wear off, even after she had lunch and drank coffee. So I asked her where her lipstick is from and on the way back from the studio popped into a drugstore to buy it - Manhatten Cosmetic Lips2Last 43H. I was super lucky that I found it because annoyingly, you can only buy this lipstick in Germany.
And finally for my eyes, I use the Naked 2 Basics eyeshadow palette by Urban Decay. I usually use the Basic palette only when I go travelling because it's not so big and heavy, especially when travelling only with hand luggage. I really love the velvety texture of the Urban Decay eyeshadow palettes and how easily they go on.
These products are my bare minimum daily essentials, I don't think I could go without any of them. Well I could, but it took me so long to figure out what's best for me and my skin, I really wouldn't want to.. :)
Embryolisse is what I usually start with on clean face, this moisturiser had been my saviour since my make up artist friend Zsombor told me about it. It's a french product, but luckily you can get in Liberty now, or on Boots's website.
Then Bare Minerals's Complexion rescue is next, that you can just apply by using your fingers (at least that's what I do), it isn't too heavy, but if you need extra coverage you can always apply extra layers where it's needed.
Then I go do my eyebrows and eyes, usually using a different palette, but luckily with having Smashbox's Contour Palette, you can do your eyes and face contouring all in one go, seeing it's got such lovely shades of brown you can fill your brows and pop a hint of colour on your eyelids in no time..
These are definitely my main go-to products when I do my makeup, it's really all I need for a natural and fresh look. I think I have used this concealer from The Body Shop since I was 17, and I just keep going back to it - it really does the magic for dark rings under the eyes and makes you look a lot more awake.
Another product I use from the Body shop is the Honey Bronze highlighter, which is a product I got introduced last summer. It's perfect when wanting a dewy skin! It's important to get the right mascara, and after trying a lot of different ones, I finally found one that Im very happy with - The Roller Lash Mascara by Benefit. The brush is nice and thin, and it gives the lashes a lovely curl.
I've bought a blusher from Sephora's inhouse-brand, after breaking my old blusher whilst in New York. I just picked it up in a rush, but its actually a really lovely blusher and its become my go to shade!
And last but not least, Carmex! I'm addicted to keeping my lips hydrated and moist, and the bog standard Carmex is my favourite product for this. So there you have it, my top 5 makeup products :)
We would love to hear what your top 5 are so please comment below and we can see if there are any clear faves.
