This Chinese Facial Tool made of jade is the secret weapon to better skin.

Gua Sha is a flat handheld tool like in the picture above, which varies in shape and is typically made from crystal , horn or yak bone.

I (Annabell) recently bought a Jade Gua Sha after the lovely Therapist at my Dr Sebagh facial highly recommended me to get one.

The Benefits of Gua Sha:

  • increases blood flow and stimulates the lymphatic system

  • moving lymph, which carries away toxins

  • It tones the muscles, smoothes, tightens and firms the skin

  • it’s deeply relaxing

But keep in mind this tool isn’t as easy to use as the face rollers where you only roll soft over the face.

When you first start using the Gua Sha tool, I would recommend watching this very insightful video by a Chinese Medical skincare professional which I have found on youtube:

The therapist explains first how to prep your skin and then shows how to ‘scrape’ your face with the Gua Sha tool. You need to apply medium to heavy pressure while raking it across the skin in an attempt to increase blood flow and stimulate the lymphatic system. When this is done properly it can feel incredible and leaves your skin glowing, well circulated as well as smooth.

My evening routine:

  1. Cleanse the face with the ‘Breakout foaming cleanser‘ from Dr Sebagh

  2. REN Ready steady glow daily AHA TONIC to gently exfoliate my face (I use it not every night but 3-4 times a week, as I have very sensitive skin)

  3. AVENE refreshing eye contour creme

  4. For the last step I either use only the Dr Sebagh Rose de Vie Serum and then start scrapping with the Gua Sha or if my face is in need of extra care then I often use the lovely NEOM face oil or the REN Evercalm™ Overnight Recovery Balm.
