15 THINGS YOU CAN DO TO IMPROVE YOUR SKIN TODAY
Having been a model all my life, I always had to make sure to have good skin. Obviously hey.. I've done loads of beauty shoots over the years too, so the pressure was even higher. Naturally I've developed a few quick fixes and of course learned a few things to make sure my skin looks it's best on the long run too. So I'm going to jump right into it, best to not waste time at get that good looking skin ASAP!
1. NEVER GO TO BED WITH MAKE UP ON
I have to admit I've been guilty of this in my early twenties party times.. Gross. DO. NOT. DO. IT. EVER. But hey, you learn once you get those clogged pores and dull skin hey. This can also lead to acne too, soooo yeah. Don't do it.
2. USE DOWNWARD MOTIONS WHEN REMOVING EYE MAKEUP
Seeing the skin around your eyes is the thinnest and most delicate on your face, you need to be uber careful with it. Best is to use light, downward movements to wipe your makeup off. And use EYE CREAM morning and night!
3. GENTLY EXFOLIATE
Very important to remove dead skin for a gorgeous glow. I normally use a gentle scrub twice a week, and make sure to use a face toner every night before I start my night time skincare routine.
4. USE ANTIOXIDANT SERUM TO YOUR DAILY ROUTINE
One of the best way to prevent ageing. UV light is still able damage your skin even if you are wearing sunscreen, but if you layer a serum containing antioxidants, like vitamin C and E, your skin repairs the damage easier. All in all, your skin will look more energised, radiant, even toned, plumped and healthy, while reducing the appearance of sun damaged skin and hyperpigmentation.
5. USE SPF
For all the reasons mentioned above. I normally choose a BB cream that already has SPF in it, unless the Sun is really strong, which is when I go for extra protection with a good sunscreen.
6. MOISTURISER AND FACE OIL EVERY DAY
If you read our blog regularly you'll get the idea of just how much I believe moisturising and face oils are keys to a healthy looking skin. I have written tons about them, I honestly think if you do nothing else I mentioned above, but use a good moisturiser during the day and add face oil to your skincare routine before going to sleep, you'll be on the right path to healthy and young looking skin. 7. USE ANTI-POLLUTION MIST
My latest fave. Just the thought of all that dirt from the busy city air we live in is stuck on your face all day long is making me feel gross. Which is why I have started using a beautifully scented anti-pollution mist from Ren Skincare that instantly shields and protects the skin from the ageing effects of harmful free radicals and environmental pollution. Not to mention it refreshes you during the Summer heat. Winning ;)
8. FACE MASKS
If your skin is on the dryer side like mine, opt for a moisturising mask that contains glycerin or hyaluronic acid. If you are more oil-prone, then alternate between exfoliating mask and a clay-based treatment. For combination skin, do some multi-masking and apply what you need, where you need it!
9. DRINK YOUR WATER-DUH
So obvious, yet I am guilty of forgetting to drink. Not even going to write down why it's good for you, as I'm sure you already know it. Had to put it in tho' seeing it's SO IMPORTANT. I'm actually planning on having a 2 litre water bottle that I aim to finish every day, since some days I don't even reach 1 litre. Very very bad!
10. EAT YOUR GREENS-AGAIN, DUH
Again, such an obvious one, yet so many people with skin problems don't think of it. Good skin starts with a healthy diet. I'm not saying don't ever eat junk, because it's just not going to happen, but come on! If you have bad breakouts, and you aren't on your period, or just about to get on it, have a think of what you've been feeding your body with. I have been making sure for a few months now to have greens, or just fresh vegetables in general with most meals I eat. I feel so much better once I'm done eating, plus, my skin is super thankful for it.
11. KEEP YOUR PILLOWCASE CLEAN
Opt for changing your sheets once every week or every two weeks latest. One of the things we never think is what we are putting our face on for a good few hours every night. If your pillow case is dirty, you can do all the cleaning you want, your face will rub against all the bacteria in your sleep anyway. Ew.
12. DON'T PICK AT YOUR SKIN
Just think of all the things you touch in a day. All the dirt and bacteria. All on your skin. Picking on that pimple or blackhead you just can't leave alone? Think again. Groooossss!
13. WORK OUT REGULARLY
Sweat it out girl! Look at me talking. I work out once a week-for now, but I do know once I do 2-3-4 times a week, my skin is sooo much better. Get that circulation going! Plus, working out helps lower the stress hormone, cortisol, which is apparently linked to skin ageing, breakouts and clogged pores. Win.
14. KEEP YOUR PHONE CLEAN
Same as the pillow case and the 'don't pick at your face" thing. Bacteria! Touching your face. No thanks! Also, when on the phone, don't press it against your skin.
15. GET ENOUGH SLEEP
Give yourself a good 6-8 hours to rejuvenate, to relax and just re-energise. Your skin will thank you for it. I know mine does! The difference between me not having enough sleep for a few days to then having a good 8 hour snooze is unbelievable. Wrinkles are gone, shine is back!
BONUS TIP: FACE MASSAGE
If you've read our March Guest Blogger's , Reve's post on skin prep tips he has learned from Japan, you'll know how much massaging your face can help making you look more awake, helping you with circulation and anti-ageing. Not to even mention, it feels amazing. I remember when I lived in Japan for modelling, the makeup artists always used to massage my face before putting makeup on, just lake Reve explained, and I felt like I was in heaven.
