a.m. skincare

Having been a model all my life, and now writing about beauty, being able to try and test all kinds of different skincare products, I get asked a lot about my skincare routine.

I have been fortunate enough to have my skin prepared by pro makeup artists, my skin treated by the best beauty technicians, so I naturally asked questions along the way and learned lots about my skin. We all have different needs when it comes to our skin, but the basics are the same.

In today’s post I am sharing my ultimate basic morning skincare routine that helps me maintain my daily glow. Hope you find it useful! :)

Whether your skincare regime consists of two or five products, it should always start with a cleanser. Without this step impurities will stay on your skin and dead skin cells will build up, blocking pores and therefore impeding the skin's ability to produce sebum (skin's natural conditioner), making your skin prone to breakouts, dry patches and dullness.

Congested pores can not only cause breakouts but also prevent the absorption of other skincare products, cleansing daily will help to clear your pores and ensure that the active ingredients in your moisturisers and serums can penetrate the deeper layers of the skin.

People argue that cleansing skin too much will lead to dryness, which is why I use oil based all natural cleansing products in my P.M. routine. I’ll write a more detailed post on that soon.

As you can see on the image, I am almost finished with my Origins ‘Checks and Balances’ cleanser. I got it because my nose region can get very oily whilst other areas of my face are really dry.

As the description says:

“Our clever cleanser balances faces with dry and oily places. This gentle, frothy face wash with Broad Leaf Kelp Extract, Wheat Protein and Tourmaline discourages excess oil production while protecting dry prone zones. Plus the aroma of Bergamot, Spearmint and Lavender refreshes. Skin feels comfortably clean. Never tight, pulled or parched.”

I did have tightness, but to be fair, unless I use all natural oil based cleansers, I always do. I however prefer those kind of cleansers for the evening, as I can just leave the oil on and let it heal my skin. And to be fair, even a La Mer face wash leaves my skin just as tight, it’s just my skin being tricky, that’s all.

Next up on my list to try is the cleanser next to it on the photo, Liquid Gold Resurfacing Cleansing Cream from ALPHA H.

What the description says:

“Liquid Gold Resurfacing Cleansing Cream is a luxurious multi-tasking cleanser which sweeps away impurities, primes the skin to better absorb and benefit from subsequent treatments, and smooths the skin’s texture and tone.

Ideal for more mature skin thanks to its ability to penetrate deep into the skin and boost anti-ageing and cellular regeneration, this next generation cleanser can be used either as your sole cleanser, or as a second cleanse.

Naturally exfoliating Lime Pearl™ Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) from the native Australian caviar lime stimulate the elimination of dryness and flakiness from the outermost layer of the skin. This also triggers cellular renewal, leading to smoother, brighter and plumper skin.”

We shall see, stay tuned. :)

What is it for?

A skin tonic not only removes impurities that had been missed during cleansing, but applying a gentle facial toner, such as Neutral 0% Skin Tonic, also works as a mild astringent.

What’s the difference between skin tonic and noter?

Most toners are intended to wash down the skin and have saturating advantages. A tonic is one particular kind of toner which comprise of three diverse recipe sorts: astringents, skin tonics, and freshners. A freshner tonic are extremely delicate and regularly simply contain a couple of common fixings (like rosewater).

My ultimate favourite tonic is Ren Skincare’s Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic. It makes my skin feel and look amazing, I am on my second bottle now and can’t get enough.

About this product:

Our super-effective AHA + BHA skin-resurfacing tonic is a REN Clean Skincare bestseller. Formulated for daily use, Ready Steady Glow brightens complexions, refines skin texture and minimises the look of pores.

Now it’s not an essential step, but I am obsessed with the Queen of Hungary Mist from Hungarian brand, Omorovicza. Also, it makes me proud to use a brand from my home country. GO HUNGARY. :))

What are serums for?

Face serums are lightweight moisturisers that penetrate deeper to deliver active ingredients into your skin. Using a serum regularly can give your skin a firmer, smoother texture, make pores appear smaller and increase moisture levels.

There are so many great serums out there, it’s hard to list all the great ones. I have however included a shop below with a pretty good selection. The ones on the images are the ones I am using right now, I tend to mix them up depending on my skins needs, but can double up with different serums on days when you need extra support.

The products are:

- Radiance Perfection Serum from Ren Clean Skincare

- Aqua plus Multi-Moisturizing Intensive Serum from Mavala Switzerland

-365 Skin Repair Youth Renewal Serum form Lancaster

- Calm Serum for Sensitivity/ Redness from S5

My final step. From then on it’s makeup prep, so I was only focusing on basic morning skincare in today’s post, not including any primers.

Please always use Sun protection when heading out, either foundation or tinted moisturisers with SPF in them already, or make sure you use Sun Screens before you start your makeup.

On this image I’m sharing one of my current favourite creams, Ren Clean Skincare’s Glow Daily Vitamin C Gel Cream that I have been loving and are almost finished with my tube. It’s very light weight, and smells incredible! Not to mention leaving my skin glowing and radiant. :)

The other cream on the pic is found in literally the kits of EVERY SINGLE makeup artist I ever met. Cult product, Lait-Crème Concentré from Embryolisse.

I like to use this moisturiser when my skin is really dry, as it’s an instant rescue. Can of course use it every day, and I have been in the past, but now I like to mix a few of my faves up depending on how my skin feels in the morning.
